For me, the most important thing a teacher can do is encourage a SAFE learning environment. Every class has potential for danger if students don't follow procedures, but this is especially true in a science and engineering classroom. The first week of school will be spent learning and reviewing the classroom expectations. We follow procedures everywhere we go, whether it is how to check out at a grocery store, how to see a movie at the theater, or how to drive. Procedures help us get what we want. My class procedures help us learn what we need to succeed in life and in school.
CLASS PROCEDURES1. ARRIVAL A. Greeting – As I greet you at the door, acknowledge me by saying something and looking me in the eye. B. Entering – Silently pick up your ISN, walk to your seat, sit down and begin on your Science Starter. C. Arriving after absent – First, walk to the “absent work” drawer and retrieve any missing work from the previous week before going to your desk. 2. ABSENCE A. Finding your work – Walk to the “Absent Work” drawer upon entering the classroom B. Turning in your work – Turn it in at the "drawer" for your class period. 3. TARDY A. Entering the class late will result in a tardy. B. Enter the class as usual. Retrieve work from "Absent Work" drawer for you class. C. Tardies are submitted to the office, and the office handles this per school handbook. 4. STUDENT WORK A. One person turns in all work in the labeled drawer for your class period at the end of class. B. Late work is also turned in with each day's work at the table. 5. GETTING CLASS’S ATTENTION A. “Give Me 5” means put a hand up, have two ears open, two eyes on me, and one mouth closed. B. I will use “Give Me 5” every time I want to call your attention to myself. 6. VISITOR IN THE ROOM A. If a visitor enters the room, ignore them. Continue working on your assignment. B. If I must tend to a visitor, parent, guest, don’t raise your hand until I’m done. 7. GETTING TEACHER’S ATTENTION A. To get my attention, raise your hand. B. This is the ONLY acceptable method for getting my attention. C. When I call on you or point at you, you may ask your question or speak to me. D. If I'm helping someone else, wait and then raise your hand when I finish. 8. RESTROOM PROCEDURE A. It is the student’s responsibility to use the restroom before or after class. B. Only one student at a time may leave for the restroom, and only for emergencies. C. Sign in and out with school planner notebook. 9. LINING UP / HALLWAY A. When I say, “Give Me 3” after saying “Give Me 1, 2”, it means line up at the door. B. Since you’ve already pushed in your chairs, walking slowly and silently to line up should be no problem. C. Students will wait for my hand signal to walk into the hallway. D. Students must maintain a single file line and silence when walking through the hallway. E. Students will stop at each door until given the hand signal to move forward. 10. DISMISSAL PROCEDURE A. The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. The teacher will tell you to “Pack-up/Clean-up” which means put binders in bags, clean up, and silently wait. B. The teacher says, “Give me 1, 2” which means stand and push in your chair.” C. "Give me 3" means line up, turn in your ISNs, and continue to line up at the door silently. C. “Have a nice day” means you may leave. 11. BULLYING PLEDGE/PROCEDURES A. Victim – If you are being bullied, let the office know immediately. 1. If I personally see the bullying, I will report this to the office after speaking with you. 2. If this happens in another class, speak to that teacher or the office. B. Bystander - If you know someone is being bullied, write a note and hand it to me. 1. I will keep what you say completely anonymous unless it requires otherwise. 2. Only do this if you are serious, this is no joking matter. 12. TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT A. ONLY use learning tools/materials when told to do so. Otherwise, hands-off! B. ONLY use learning tools/materials in manner prescribed by the teacher to ensure safety. |
